5.0 out of 5 stars Works Better then Awesome, March 12, 2010

Let me first explain this. I live in Redmond, WA (home of Microsoft and Amazon) which is east of Seattle. Most if not all radio stations are in Seattle which is about 20-30 miles away.

When I put in a Alpine CDA-9885 HD Radio replacing the factory installed Bose Symphony Radio in my '01 S4 I had terrible reception. I could not figure it out since my Stock Radio had pretty good reception. The more I researched the more I discovered that most newer cars the AM/FM antenna was actually embedded in the rear window glass. Most of them are designed to only work with the factory radio installed in the car. That did not work for me since I love HD radio and needed a iPOD connections, so I had gotten a aftermarket radio. I talked to people at CarToys, BestBuy, and even the well known [...] people and no one could help me. I needed a antenna that didn't require me to drill into my S4. Finally I came across a couple of Hot Rod and motorcycle forums that said that this antenna was the... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars An OK hidden antenna, January 8, 2011

I wanted a hidden antenna to remove the long whip one mounted on the back of my 2011 Harley Road Glide for looks and fit under my tour pack. It obviously isn't going to be as good as an exterior mounted antenna. So if you want the same reception as the outside unit, forget it. I might go back to the stock antenna but cut it down some and put the cap back on the shortened stock unit. The reception is adequate, not great, but adequate. someone suggested taking a stubby car antenna, cut it and then stick it in the fairing. Interesting idea. I also might leave it on cause it's good enough for me too . I give this unit a strong 3 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sorta Works, July 17, 2010

For the Price and the claims it doesn't really live up to expectations. This antenna was to replace my stock antenna that was lying, mast half broken off, in a gap behind a plastic panel in my trunk still connected. I could get the radio when I was in the city but drive a little ways out and it was gone. I figured this couldn't be worse then that setup so I decided to try it out. I attached it to my rear window glass and dressed in the cord making sure to ground it as the instructions say. In the city no problem but the signal will break up easily if I go into a valley. It has extended my listening range by maybe 4 miles but I have sacrificed the relatively clear signal where ever I was in the city with my old antenna. Three starts because it does work but don't expect much out of this little device.
